Viking have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Engineer (SAS) to join our team based in Milton Keynes (2 days home working per week). You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 40 hours per week and in return, you will receive an excellent salary and benefits package.

About the Principal Data Engineer (SAS) role:

You will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a data platform which will be the single source for all analytic and reporting queries. Later, you will be responsible for development and integration of as the platform it is continually enhanced with new internal data assets and those of external 3rd parties, as they become available.

Your responsibilities as our Principal Data Engineer (SAS) will include:

Providing information, feedback and mentorship to support technology-related decision making

Consulting and working with development teams to determine, execute and deliver relevant solutions

Acting as internal subject matter expert in the evolving landscape of Data management 

Training, coaching and supporting users on environment, tools, data and services

Deploying and implementing leading-edge analytics solutions including software, end-user tools and other data services.

Technical accountability and ownership for the SAS platform installations/deployments, on-going maintenance and support

Proactively solve technical incidents and problems, managing customer expectations, within agreed service levels

Scheduling, monitoring, logging and troubleshooting SAS servers & processes

Be the bridge between the SAS users and the IT organisation in terms of delivering a robust, scalable platform

Driving the modernisation of the current SAS platform in-line with our overall Marketing and Information & Analytics’ strategy

Be the point of contact for our relationship with SAS Institute to ensure that we are continuously leveraging our technology investment

What we’re looking for in our Principal Data Engineer (SAS):

Essential

Experience of aspects of the SDLC, in the Data Engineering / Data Quality / Business Analytics space

Experience of successfully managing stakeholders

Knowledge and experience of data platforms, such as relational database systems, data warehouse or other OLAP systems

Experience in enterprise environments including the Azure ecosystem with knowledge of Synapse

The ability to work in a fast paced environment, with constant focus on delivery

Extensive administering SAS 9.4 / Viya and CI360 platforms

Experience with the SAS Campaign Management suite: Marketing Automation/Customer Intelligence Studio, Marketing Optimisation

Strong Linux/Unix skills

Strong communication and project management skills

Strong customer focus and customer awareness, is a good listener

Excellent prioritizing and problem solving skills

Excellent analytical skills and the ability to provide alternative solutions to technical problems
